Downtown Summerlin and Red Rock Resort Las Vegas
A long time ago, in what seems like a galaxy far far away Las Vegas suddenly stopped on the west side of town at Rainbow Boulevard.
Eventually, starting in the early 1990’s a small village called “Summerlin” started to take shape on a huge plot of land owned by the Hughes Corporation.
If that name sounds famililar it should. It was the same Howard Hughes that purchased the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino all those years ago. Mr Hughes had left a legacy namesake company that was going to radically change the face of Las Vegas for generations.
VISITING RED ROCK CASINO AND DOWNTOWN SUMMERLIN from the strip
If you plan to visit Downtown Summerlin and Red Rock Resort and Casino, it could not be any simplier than heading north along the main Las Vegas strip along Las Vegas Boulevard, then turning west on Charleston Boulevard.
You will, after some time, arrive at the Red Rock Resort and Casino. Downtown Summerlin is walking distance from the casino.
Yes, you will need some sort of transportation. No, it is 100% not something you should attempt to walk unless you have all day, and it is winter so you do not die of heatstroke.
The most “beverly hills” part of vegas?
It is likely not by sheer happenstance that Downtown Summerlin is very much like Southern California. The influx of people into the valley from California in recent years has created a demand for new retail, and you are always smart to serve your potential clients what they want.
The nice part of Downtown Summerlin is the way they centered it around water, a limited resource without the need for large deep ponds.
absolutely breathtaking views of the strip
It can be hard to explain to people that haven’t looked on a map, but the Las Vegas Strip is not a straight line. It looks more like a hockey stick than anything resembling a straight shot north and south.
Because of this, there are actually limited spots in the Las Vegas valley that afford these sort of views.
While walking on our livestream, I noticed a ramp that led up to the top level of the Red Rock Casino parking garage, and the views were great.
Dare I say “billion dollar views?” or maybe even trillion dollar.
The most “vegas strippy” resort that isn’t on the las vegas strip
When the Red Rock Resort (technically stylized as “Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa”) opened in 2006, it marked a new era for “locals hotels” in the cities history
Locals Hotels?
Yes you read that correctly. For as much as Las Vegas locals (or as some call us “Las Vegans” love the occasional night out, sometimes you just want to avoid the on average 120,000+ people visiting form everywhere else who are all crammed into a small five mile section of the strip or one mile spot downtown.
Locals hotels have existed for decades, likely even more than a century. Some of the older properties include the Gold Coast and Sams Town, but Red Rock Resort was a much different style altogether.
a bigger better locals hotel
Red Rock Resort did things on a larger scale. Steakhouses that would run you hundreds of dollars. Thousands of guest rooms.
Elaborate landscaping out front, and fireworks on the Fourth of July.
This is truly one of my personal favorite hotels in the city, and I urge you to come out and take a look.
This is especially true for those of you that think you have seen enough of the typical tourist strip. It is well worth it.
a note on the lack of interior photos
Although I have an extreme appreciation for the property, I am not officially sanctioned to take photos or record video inside.
Because of this, it is not possible to get high quality photos inside any Las Vegas casino in like the photos you see in this post.
These photos require some sort of tripod (even if it is small) and multiple exposures taken in succession. This means that I would require a proper media pass from the PR department of any property I wanted to photograph the interior of.
I apologize for this, but it truly is as nice inside as it is outside.
QUESTION OF THE DAY FOR YOU…
So I ask you what is your favorite off the strip and not downtown casino? Is there a place you go every time you visit?
Somewhere you would make a special trip for?
